Pastoral Ministry

Baptism and confirmation
- Baptism is the sacrament of welcome into Christ’s body, the Church. Baptism involves a period of preparation, and culminates in the candidate’s baptism in church, usually during Sunday worship.
- Baptism means being washed with water, as a dramatic way of a person dying with Jesus, and being raised to new life through the Holy Spirit, as the child of God. Our old way of living is left behind, and we commit ourselves to live for God – we are ‘baptised into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit’. Anglicans welcome to baptism people of any age with the intention that they will live the Christian life.
- Confirmation is a step taken by young people and adults. It allows them to affirm that they intend to follow Jesus, and asks the Church to continue to support them in that intention. It involves a period of preparation, and culminates in the renewal of their baptismal promises and the laying on of hands by the Bishop.
